Views-
1) Prof. Tushar Chavan
Rashtriya Junior College, Chalisgaon Dist. Jalgaon
1) Student-Centric Textbooks
The new textbook should reflect the interests, language, and mindset of today’s youth to ensure better engagement.
2) Engaging and Relatable Content
The syllabus must include stories, poems, and articles that are interesting, enjoyable, and relevant to students’ real-life experiences.
3) Short Stories in Place of Drama
Replace the Drama section with a Short Stories section to make the syllabus more accessible and easier to teach within limited classroom time.
4) MCQ-Based Grammar Assessment
Grammar should be tested through Multiple Choice Questions to align with competitive exam patterns and improve objectivity in evaluation.
5) Inclusion of Modern Life Themes
The syllabus should incorporate topics related to technology, mental health, environment, careers, and social media to make learning more contextual.
6. Updated Writing Skill Components
Writing skill sections must include new-age tasks like article writing, AI prompt writing along with traditional formats.
7) Project-Based Learning (PBL):
Replace or supplement traditional assignments with project-based tasks, such as conducting a mini-survey, interviewing a community leader, or creating a digital storytelling project, conducting seminars, comparing a programme, Drafting and sending actual E- mails, Creating Grammar Quizzes etc.
Audio – Visual Comprehension
Analyzing Podcasts or Documentaries or speeches

All the writing skills should be included in the textbook. Students have to prepare it from outside. Everything should be asked from textbook.
The grammar items which are going to be asked in the examination should be included in the textbook with selected grammar items and their examples.

The new Grade 11 syllabus should be designed by Junior College teachers, as they are more familiar with the learning needs and abilities of students at this level. There should be no interference from Senior College teachers in the syllabus design.
The syllabus should be prepared by reviewing other well-structured textbooks and should be skill-based, concise, engaging, and enjoyable, so that students develop an interest in learning.
The introduction of each author should be limited to 5–6 lines, highlighting only the most important information.
Instead of including a separate section for very short stories, the textbook should contain only four short stories, carefully selected for their literary and educational value.
A textbook with six units and six poems is sufficient to achieve the learning objectives without overburdening students.
The Class 12 textbook should be more language-based than subject-based. While framing the syllabus, too much emphasis is placed on literary aspects, whereas the real aim is to develop skills. Why are the realities of young people not taken into account when designing the syllabus?
In the Class 11 syllabus, the very first lesson, “Being Neighborly,” is so long that it feels like a short story. Designing the syllabus by selecting only a few literary pieces gives the impression that adolescents are being burdened. The writings of today’s young people should also find a place in the syllabus.

According to me the present situation is correct.

What would happen if we offered students a choice between three types of English syllabi based on their interests? Students would select one out of the three options, similar to how science tracks work:
Pure Literature: Focusing on classic and contemporary literary works.
Practical English: Focusing on modern, real-world communication needs.
Foundational & Career-Oriented English: Focusing on core language skills and job-market opportunities.

The Board of Studies for English is dominated by Senior College faculty, with minimal Junior College representation. Since Junior College students differ vastly from undergraduates in maturity, exam patterns, and purpose of learning English, this imbalance risks a syllabus that is misaligned with actual classroom needs. The BoS must include more practicing Junior College teachers and HSC examiners in its decision-making.
A serious concern under NEP 2020 is the possibility of English losing compulsory status at the HSC level. In rural areas, where exposure to English is already limited, this could lead many students to drop the subject entirely — widening the rural-urban divide, since English remains the key gateway to higher education, competitive exams, and employability.
The new syllabus must therefore be practical and skill-based: stronger focus on spoken English, functional writing, and workplace communication, rather than heavy literary analysis alone. Content should match the real needs of today’s students, not outdated assumptions.
Expectations from the BoS going forward: ensure adequate Junior College representation, retain English’s compulsory status (or build strong incentives to keep it functionally compulsory), consult teachers from rural and urban colleges before finalizing changes, and review the syllabus periodically to keep pace with evolving student and employability needs.

Our expectations are infinite, our opinions are excellent but the Team that they had choosen their (favouratism, lobby)for Compiling the forthcoming Text Book does matter. There are lots of creative, innovative teachers that teaches from heart in villages towns are not in their team so we can force to implement the curriculum that they had prepared.
One thing we have to do we can appeal teachers to share their views and compile a memorandum and send it to the study board so maybe it can work. Last Time I was a reviewer of the 12 STD Text Book. We compelled them to add Indian writers and poets. We also excluded a lengthy Novel Kanthpura.

1. Most of the prose, poetry and literary contents are from foreign culture … it should be related to Indian culture.
2. There should be fixed list of Grammatical items for 11 and 12 th class.
3. 60 + 20 + 20 (project) is the best.
12) Prof. Dhakane Z. N.
If the distribution of 60 and 20 and 20, there may be separate passing in each evaluation.
Textbooks must activate students.
Exam patterns must be useful for competitive exams.
Upcoming syllabus may include project work / fieldwork for research or thesis.
13) Dr. Shankar Tikande
The new syllabus should focus more on Applied English, enabling students to acquire practical communication skills that will be beneficial for their future career opportunities.
14) Prof Chaulla Chauksi
The current textbook pattern needs to be drastically changed.
Seen Prose section…looooooong chapters.. actual weightage is only 6 marks…
Drama is way too complicated for the mass of students.
Yes, more relevant Indian content should be included.
15) Prof. Krunal Chandrashekhar Patil, Shital Society Navapur
Will they accept our views sir? They have made a mess to the current syllabus and not even bothered about rural students.
16) Ravindra Kadam
Instead of drama for F.Y.J.C., short stories should be introduced. There should be 4 stories, out of them 2 are written by Indian writers.
Articles can also be included it would enhance their capabilities of thinking
There should be changes in evaluation pattern. Project work as suggested by many of us is a good one. It means written + Oral + Project work. Marks and passing criteria are a subject of debate. But evaluation pattern must be changed. The new textbook should cater the needs of both classes of students i.e. weaker in English as well as better students.
